Insights into Climate Change and Directors’ Duties
Please join us for the next IGCC member meeting at 12.30pm, 8 September 2021.
The standard of care required by directors with respect to climate change has risen considerably, alongside evolving litigation risk related to misleading or deceptive conduct, as highlighted in the recent opinion by Noel Hutley SC and Sebastian Hartford Davis. This trend is mirrored by Australian corporate regulators issuing guidance reiterating director’s responsibilities to manage climate-related risks and extends globally with the World Economic Forum developing a set of Climate Governance Principles for boards of directors.
Join us at our next member meeting where Sarah Barker, Partner and Head of Climate Risk Governance at MinterEllison will share some key insights arising from the updated Noel Hutley opinion; and Ian Woods, Principal and Founder of Ian Woods Advisors will share the latest findings from research on the capability of Australian CA100+ company boards.
We’ll also have a panel discussion on the expectations over how directors should be discharging their duty of due care and diligence in respect to climate change, the evolving litigation risks, the role of corporate regulators, the current state of ASX-listed boards with significant climate risk exposure and how investor expectations can drive the conversation forward.
