Conference Overview

2009 Australian National Carbon Conference will provide an integrated forum for discussion on climate change policy, carbon finance and responses to these challenges. The Conference is to be held in Brisbane, Queensland on the 27th and 28th of August.


The first day of the Conference will be opened by the keynote speaker, Senator the Hon. Penny Wong, Federal Minister for Climate Change and Water discussing the importance of the CPRS implementation in establishing Australia’s position in lead up to the UNFCCC Conference in Copenhagen in December this year.

The second day of the Conference will be opened by the Vice President of the Maldives, Dr Mohamed Waheed. Vice President Dr Waheed is leading the implementation of the Maldives becoming the first fully carbon-neutral country by 2020.

Discussions at the Conference will include
  • Government Policy on Carbon Management lead by Stephen Robertson MP Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy, Queensland and; Patrick Conlon MP, Minister for Energy, South Australia
  • Global Financing in a Carbon Constrained Economy Panel moderated by Bernie Ripoll MP, Chair, Parliamentary Joint Committee on Corporations and Financial Services. Panel members includes representatives from the institutional investment community
  • Embedding Cleantech in Infrastructure includes speakers from major developer and engineering companies on embedding cleantech and alternate energy solutions into infrastructure and large-scale development projects    
  • Regional Climate Change Adaption lead by Professor Jean Palutikoff, Director of the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility and a member of Nobel Peace Prize winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) working group in the UK.          
  • Financial Markets with Presentations from the ASX, FEX-SIM and market participants on carbon, cleantech and environmental markets and on investment opportunities in Alternate Energy and Cleantech.          
  • Emerging Energy Solutions with speakers from leading alternate energy companies will discuss emerging energy solutions which lower the carbon footprint and provide alternatives for base-load and industrial power.
