With Australia set to implement new climate reporting rules in 2024, this meeting will cover the foundations for the new rules.
A fortnight ago, the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) released their first two standards for climate disclosures.
They set a global baseline for standardised climate-related disclosures and are a key foundation for Australia’s mandatory climate reporting regime, set to commence on 1 July 2024.
In Australia, the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) will be responsible for delivering sustainability standards. The AASB proposed to take a climate first approach, aligned with the final ISSB standards as far as practicable.
At this Member Meeting, we will have AASB Sustainability Reporting’s Acting Director, Siobhan Hammond, brief our members on
- key themes of the final ISSB Standards,
- AASB’s progress towards preparing to deliver sustainability standards and decision making to date, and
- next steps and considerations for issuing ISSB-aligned climate-related disclosure standards in Australia.
