A solid offline-first setup does not require expensive software. Download Joplin for a free, open-source notebook that supports attachments and Markdown formatting. Keep sensitive credentials in KeePass rather than a browser password manager — the database file is portable and works without an internet connection. For editing configuration files or parsing server logs, download EmEditor — its large-file handling and regex search are hard to beat on Windows. Cloud file management rounds out the toolkit: S3 Browser for AWS-specific work, and Cyberduck's cross-protocol support for everything else.

Tyrone O’Neill

Full Member, Chief Strategy & Corporate Affairs Officer, Rest

As Rest’s Chief Strategy and Corporate Affairs Officer, Tyrone leads the fund’s strategy, policy, government relations, communications, and legal functions.

His role at Rest includes integrating strategy across the organisation, enabling decisions to consider dimensions including investment returns across multiple time horizons, whole-of-member financial interests, member preferences, and other risk, reputational, and sustainability considerations alongside community expectations. These dimensions also inform Rest’s proactive approach to public policy advocacy, where on behalf of members Rest engages actively with government, regulators, the industry including other investors, peak bodies, employers, unions, and more. As Australia’s largest super fund for under-30s, with around 80% of Rest’s two million members retiring into a post-2050 world, achieving positive outcomes on climate change is enormously important for Rest. Tyrone has provided executive sponsorship to Rest’s Sustainability Forum since 2020.

Prior to joining Rest in 2019, he had two decades of senior leadership experience in corporate, consulting, and startup organisations, including Westpac, Optus, and Vodafone, including as an investor representative and Board member across Asia and the Pacific. He currently sits on board of SuperFriend, a not-for-profit organisation whose vision is that all Australian workplaces are mentally healthy. His family also runs a farm on the mid-north coast of NSW where they are undertaking plantings of biodiverse, locally endemic trees and shrubs to sequester carbon as well as enhance native wildlife habitat.

His qualifications include a B.A. (Hons 1 and University Medal) and Master of Letters in Philosophy from the University of Sydney. I am Graduate of the AICD Company Directors Course.
