Implications from IEA Net Zero 2050 scenario
The recently released International Energy Agency’s (IEA) Net Zero by 2050: A Roadmap for the Global Energy Sector by 2050 is a comprehensive study of how to transition to a net zero energy system by 2050 while ensuring stable and affordable energy supplies, providing universal energy access and enabling robust economic growth. The roadmap sets out 400 milestones about how this could happen including steep increases in the uptake of renewable energy, no new oil and gas or thermal coal projects, and net-zero electricity by 2040. The report also examines key uncertainties, such as the roles of bioenergy, carbon capture and behavioural changes in reaching net zero.
Join us for IGCC’s June member meeting to hear more about the roadmap and what it may mean for investor targets, capital allocation and engagement with companies.
