Advocacy in Action: Inside IGCC's Investor Roadshow
What’s happening
Parliament has returned from the winter break with several policy issues relevant to IGCC members either still in train or to be considered in the second half of 2026. In late August, IGCC brought a delegation of 16 investors to Canberra in partnership with PRI’s Sovereign Engagement program for C-suite policy advocacy, briefing key stakeholders on a range of issues — most notably the recently commenced government review Safeguard Mechanism reform options and IGCC’s reform proposals, launched during the visit.
Why it matters
Investors operate in an environment where bipartisan support for action on climate is being eroded, and the US war on Iran — and its impact on oil availability and prices — has put energy and the transition on the agenda in the context of national security. At the same time, government is increasingly looking to institutional investors to invest in support of broader social and economic objectives, whether that be in renewable energy, affordable housing, or other sectors.
IGCC’s Investor Roadshows are an opportunity for members to put investor views directly in front of the decision makers shaping major legislation and policy for the year ahead, at the moment they are making those decisions. It is this direct, ongoing access — built through repeated engagements in Canberra — that has established IGCC and our members as trusted advisors on national climate policy, with politicians on all sides and with government departments and agencies.
