Australia and New Zealand’s biggest institutional investors have joined more than 225 global investors with over US$26 trillion in assets under management to engage the world’s largest emitting companies to act on climate change.
Climate Action 100+ launched today by five investor organisations in Paris at the One Planet Summit hosted by President Macron, is a new five-year project harnessing the weight and influence of global investors to engage the world’s largest greenhouse gas emitting companies on climate action.

Bonn, November 13, 2017. The US government may have announced plans to pull out of the Paris Agreement but this has not derailed climate progress around the globe as investors, governments and other stakeholders look to ramp up their climate commitments at COP23.
According to a new survey published in September by financial market researchers East & Partners on behalf of HSBC, institutional investors are gearing up to plough increasing amounts of cash into the low carbon transition, with two-thirds saying they plan to increase their level of investment in climate mitigation efforts.

The Investor Group on Climate Change (IGCC) and the Asia Investor Group on Climate Change (AIGCC) have collaborated to develop a new Investor Toolkit aimed at raising awareness of climate change-related risks and opportunities in the land sector and practical guidance for investors on how to respond.
The guide – Connecting Commodities, Investors, Climate, and the Land: a Toolkit for Investors – sets out the land sector’s economic and emissions profile in Australia, New Zealand, and Asia and current policy responses.

For the first time, Australia’s largest investors have commissioned a report to map the disruption of the coal sector in Australia, community impacts and associated risks and opportunities for investors.
Supported by two of Australia’s largest superannuation funds, First State Super and Cbus, Coal, Carbon and the Community: Investing in a Just Transition, is being launched by the Investor Group on Climate Change (IGCC) which represents institutional investors with total funds under management of over $1.6 trillion.

Reports of the Government’s decision to step back from implementing the Clean Energy Target are concerning for investors and for business calling for greater regulatory certainty in the energy sector.
“Investors couldn’t be more clear – Australia desperately needs an effective climate change response for the energy sector. Without it, the investment strike will continue,” said Emma Herd, Chief Executive Officer of the Investor Group on Climate Change.
