Climate Resilience in Practice: New Resources for Investors
What we’ll cover
This session will introduce three new IGCC resources to help member stay up to date on the latest dynamics in adaptation and resilience investment.
- Expanding the Investible Market for Adaptation: A Discussion Paper
- Resilient Infrastructure: Physical Climate Risk Assessments for Defensible Decision-Making
- Just Adaptation: An Introduction for Institutional Investors
These resources translate the physical risks into practical actions. They provide guidance on assessing and managing physical risk, integrating resilience into investment processes, and the social dimensions of adaptation. They enable IGCC members to strengthen risk management while positioning portfolios for growth in a climate-resilient economy.
Why it matters now
Physical climate risk is becoming ever more material to institutional investors. Accordingly, the industry is getting more active and sophisticated in this domain. Market leaders view adaptation and resilience expertise as a source of competitive advantage, and IGCC has been extremely active in adaptation policy development.
Despite this, there remains a significant gap in adaptation finance. While the economic case for resilience is increasingly clear, private capital flows into adaptation continue to lag mitigation. This reflects a range of barriers, including challenges in assessing physical risk, limited standardised methodologies, and poor visibility of investable opportunities. Closing this gap is critical to protecting portfolios and enabling a more resilient economy.
