Investors welcome the New Zealand Green Investment Finance fund

5 December 2018

Investors with more than $2 trillion in assets under management welcome today’s launch of the New Zealand Green Investment Finance fund by the Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Climate Change Minister James Shaw as a welcome step to achieve net zero emissions.

“Unlocking investment requires robust, investment-grade policies to reduce emissions in line with the objectives of the Paris Agreement and achieving net zero emissions,” Emma Herd, CEO of the Investor Group on Climate Change said.

“By partnering with the private sector to scale up investment in low carbon and climate resilient solutions, the New Zealand Green Investment Finance fund will be an important policy in the NZ economy for tackling climate change”.

“The New Zealand Government is building a reputation as a global leader in the response to climate change. This is important to manage the financial risks to its economy from climate change and unlock the economic opportunities that will come from an economy-wide transition to net zero emissions.”

“Investors will work with the Government to ensure the Green Investment Finance fund unlocks the private sector investment needed to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.” Herd said.
