Major consensus reached on Australian climate risk reporting

Twenty of Australia’s most influential business and finance peak bodies have come to an unprecedented consensus on the need for sustainability reporting including action on climate risk through a new reporting regime that aims to set a global baseline. The group has welcomed the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) draft sustainability standards in a joint submission which collectively represents the voice of 20 peak professional, industry and investor bodies in Australia who came together to prepare the joint response to the two exposure drafts.

The Investor Agenda releases new guidance for investors to develop and publish ambitious Investor Climate Action Plans

  • The seven founding partners of the Investor Agenda have released updated ICAPs Guidance to help investors reach a net-zero emissions economy by 2050 or sooner.
  • The ICAPs guidance is designed to accompany the ICAPs Ladder to raise investor ambition on the climate crisis.

Regenerate & Restore – Circular Economy Discussion Paper For Investors

The Investor Group on Climate Change today released a new discussion paper on The Circular Economy – the systemic approach that has risen to prominence as a key method to address climate change. Global Net Zero Asset Managers Initiative Grows to 273, A$85.3 trillion

  • Less than 18 months since the initiative launched, 83 asset managers have set initial targets, with 39% of their assets (USD 16 trillion/ AUD 22.3 trillion) now committed to be managed in line with achieving net zero by 2050 or sooner

New research released today (13 April 2022) by the Investor Group on Climate Change (IGCC), whose members hold more than AU$33 trillion in global AUM, highlights tough questions for new Australian gas projects. IGCC’s new research shows that under 1.5°C, Paris-aligned climate scenarios, new Australian gas projects may be economically challenged, and investors are likely to be cautious of capital expenditure in the sector.

The IPCC Working Group III report provides the clearest statement yet on the accelerated changes necessary from investors, business and policy-makers. Rapid changes across the economy, especially energy, transport, and real estate, have the greatest likelihood of limiting global warming, thereby protecting the financial interests of investors beneficiaries.
