Australia is broadly on the right track when it comes to mandatory climate disclosures; the sooner investors can get a reliable and comprehensive picture of climate risks and opportunities for the companies they hold, the sooner they can efficiently put capital to work decarbonising the economy. However, Australia also has a chance to make a really valuable contribution to best practice for reporting the likely impact of climate change’s damage and disruption, which markets currently under-price.

The seven founding partners of the Investor Agenda have released an updated ICAPs Expectations Ladder, designed for all investors, regardless of where they are on their climate transition.
The ICAPs Expectation Ladder has been updated to remain aligned to the latest approaches, existing frameworks, and ICAPs Guidance.
It also explicitly incorporates deforestation actions for the first time.

The Australian government has released their proposal for new mandatory climate reporting. The proposed rules will help Australian companies remain attractive in global capital markets while providing investors, regulators, and stakeholders with a comprehensive understanding of the economy's climate risks and opportunities.

In consultation with investor signatories, the initiative releases today an updated Benchmark (Benchmark 2.0) to ensure that it continues to effectively support investor engagements with focus companies during this critical decade.
The enhancements made intend to embed a stronger focus on emissions reductions, alignment with 1.5°C pathways and the robustness of transition plans.
The Benchmark will remain one of the key pillars of the initiative as it embarks upon Phase 2.
